Who handles your information
Jeff Hampton operates Asheville.gg and handles privacy requests at jeff@jeffhampton.us. This policy covers our website, directory, business dashboards, and contact form. External business websites and service providers have their own privacy policies.
Information you provide
We collect contact-form names, email addresses, subjects, and messages; business-claim contact names, emails, job titles, and claim details; account identifiers and role information; business-group and subscription records; and the listing text, contact details, images, links, and events you submit. Please do not send payment card numbers, passwords, identity documents, or sensitive personal information through the contact form. Contact messages are emailed to the operator; they are not public directory content.
Information from your browser and providers
The site uses browser storage for saved places, locally saved review entries, temporary onboarding fields, and a session identifier for listing analytics. Our server receives request information such as IP addresses and browser headers. Listing analytics count views and website, phone, and direction clicks; repeat interactions are deduplicated using a hashed combination of request/session information for a limited time. Business dashboards show interaction totals rather than a named visitor list. These counts do not establish physical visits or sales. Our hosting provider may keep access and security logs.
We count site visits ourselves, without cookies or advertising trackers: the page address, the referring website, a device type, and, on game pages, plays, finished runs and time spent. Unique visitors are counted with a hash of your IP address and browser that changes daily and is deleted after two days; we do not store your IP address for this. Browsers that send Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control are not counted. If you add a score to an arcade leaderboard, the name you enter and your score are shown publicly on that game’s weekly and monthly boards, and your browser remembers the name in local storage for next time.
Clerk provides sign-in and account services. Clerk and Stripe support checkout and billing; we receive subscription status and related identifiers rather than full payment card details. If a business authorizes an available Facebook or Instagram connection, we may receive page identifiers, account names, authorized tokens, and recent post details needed to show or refresh that business’s posts. Stored connection credentials are encrypted by the application. Automatic social importing requires a configured integration and authorization.
How we use and share information
We use information to operate accounts and dashboards, review business claims, publish authorized content, manage memberships and postcard reservations, answer messages, measure listing interactions, prevent abuse, and meet legal obligations. Authorized staff access information as needed for their duties. Hosting, authentication, payment, email-delivery, and connected social providers process information necessary for their services. We may disclose information to comply with lawful requests or protect rights and security. We do not sell contact-form messages or account contact information, and we do not use contact-form submissions as consent to marketing emails.
GOOD NEWSletter
Newsletter signup is optional and separate from registration, business claims, and payment. If you opt in, we record your verified account email, signup source, consent wording and time, and delivery status. beehiiv processes your email to deliver the newsletter and confirmation messages. Choices may remain queued until the connection is ready. Confirm the email invitation to finish signup. We do not automatically reactivate an unsubscribed email. Unsubscribe using the link in a newsletter email or contact Jeff for help.
Public listings and private drafts
Published business profiles and events are public, including contact information you choose to publish. Pending claim drafts are visible only to the claimant and authorized staff until ownership approval. A publicly listed business can remain in the independent directory after a management account closes; removing private account data does not automatically remove factual public business information. Tell us if a listing is inaccurate or exposes personal information.
Third-party content
Google Fonts supplies the site’s web fonts, and OpenStreetMap supplies map tiles. Loading these resources sends request information, including your IP address, to their providers. Embedded Facebook or Instagram content, externally hosted photos, and other linked resources may also send information to their hosts when loaded. Clicking directions, booking, ordering, or business links takes you to another service. Your browser and each provider’s settings control their cookies and tracking.
Retention and security
We keep account and business records while needed to provide services, resolve claims, and maintain subscription or payment records. Contact messages remain in the operator’s mailbox while needed to handle the conversation and related obligations. Security logs and backups may persist under hosting and backup schedules. We do not promise a fixed deletion deadline for all systems. We use access controls and encrypted connections where supported, but no online service or email system is completely secure. Please report suspected exposure promptly.
Your choices and requests
Email jeff@jeffhampton.us to request access to your personal information, correction, deletion, account closure, or help disconnecting a social account. Include the account email and relevant listing URL; we may verify identity before acting, and will explain any legal or operational reason that prevents full deletion. You can clear browser storage and manage cookies in your browser. Deleting sign-in data may log you out, and clearing storage removes saved places and unfinished forms. Where privacy laws provide additional rights, we will handle requests as those laws require. Do not include passwords in a request.
Children and policy changes
Business accounts and paid memberships are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect account information from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted personal information, contact jeff@jeffhampton.us so we can investigate and remove it as appropriate. We will update the effective date when this policy changes and communicate material changes affecting account information through the site or an appropriate account notice.
